THORNTON - Gladys Attwood McManus, 88 of Thornton, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 at St. Johns Nursing Home in Fordyce, AR. She was born May 25, 1920 in New Edinburg, AR., in Cleveland County to the late William David Attwood and Addie Bell Daniel Attwood. She married Merle "Pap" McManus in 1945, who died in June of 2004. She was also preceded in death by her brother, David Clark Attwood, and two sisters, Louise Sledd and Mary Taylor.

She went to college at Arkansas A&M (UA at Monticello) and became a school teacher. After marriage to Pap, she was a
homemaker and worked with him in his business ventures. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Thornton. She was
the church pianist for many years. She was also the Church Clerk for 24 years and served as Sunday School and Church
Training teacher.

She had a "green thumb" and loved flowers. She was a very kind and gracious lady who always exhibited a sweet, Godly spirit. Her joy in life was doing things for others. The focus of her life was serving her Lord and caring for her family.

She is survived by daughter, Barbara Finley and husband, Joe, of Fordyce; son, Danny McManus and wife, Judy, of Thornton; and daughter, Annette Pollock of Hope; one sister, Nell Rose Wood of Bryant; grandchildren, Brian Finley of Fordyce, Allison Stroud and husband, Greg, of Marion, Jonathan Finley of Fordyce, Tyler Finley of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jeremy McManus and wife, Amy, of Millport, Ala., Matthew McManus and wife, Sarah, on his second tour of duty in Iraq, Cara Pollock of Nashville, Lauren Pollock and Chelsea Pollock of Conway, Ark.; great grandchildren, Alex and Caroline Stroud, Gracie Finley, Brittany and Hunter McManus.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Thornton with Rev. James Grafton and Rev. Stacy Reed officiating.

Burial with be at Freehouse Cemetery in New Edinburg.
