Resident of Walnut Creek Elwood Iram Lentz Sr., age 91, died on October 25, 2007 after a brief illness.

Born near Myerstown, PA, on his mother's family farm, he graduated from Myerstown High School and Elizabethtown College, PA. He was the class valedictorian of his high school and college. He received degrees in History and Chemistry.

In 1938-41, Mr. Lentz was employed as a chemist, Asst. Plant Supt. and Supt. by Allegheny Chemical Corp.

In 1942, he began his 40-year career with Stauffer Chemical Co., moving with assignments from PA to Berkeley, CA, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Houston, and Chicago. He retired in Dec. 1981 as the Vice President and General Manager of the Fertilizer and Mining Division - Corporate Vice President of Stauffer Chemical Co.

Mr. Lentz was a registered Chemical Engineer, State of California, a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers since 1961 and the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 1963.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Clara (Althouse); children, E.I. Lentz, Jr. (Bud) of Walnut Creek, Marcia Brockbank of Oakland, Anita Varley of Bozeman, MT, David Lentz of Sacramento; sons-in-law, Norman Brockbank and John Varley; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Frantz and Lela Forry, Lebanon, PA.

The Lentzes retired to Silverado, Napa County, Rancho Murrieta, and lastly, Rossmoor.

Mr. Lentz will be remembered by his family and friends as an avid reader, domino player, golfer and for his better than average sense of humor.

Mr. Lentz requested that no services he held and that his remains be scattered beneath the Golden Gate Bridge.
