James H. "Cotton" Orr Sr., 80, of 1614 Highway 86, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at his home.

Husband of Mary B. Orr, he was born in Greenville, the son of the late Wilton and Cassie Arrowood Orr.

He was a Navy veteran, served in World War II and was retired from Daniel Construction. Mr. Orr was a member of Monaghan Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Also he loved farming and basketball.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, James H. "Jimmy" Orr Jr. of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Joey R. Orr of Powdersville; two daughters, Evelyn Brewington of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jamie Kay Pacheco, of Westport, Mass.; a sister, Nellie Orr of Pickens County; a stepson, Ronald Poole, of Saluda N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and his first wife, Billie Jean Smith, of Fayetteville, N.C. He was predeceased by his second wife, Mildred Mahaffey.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Monaghan Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Dilworth officiating. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
