He was born March 18, 1900, a son of Simon and Josephine (Kent) Rhodes. He was self-employed as a livestock dealer.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Rhodes; one son, James H. Rhodes of Waynesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Mosby Clark Toms and Mrs. R. Page Anderson, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, Forrest of Atlanta, Ga., and Virgil Rhodes of Clifton Forge; two half-sisters, Mrs. Maphis Campbell of Roseland and Mrs. Gordon Flanaghan of Fairhaven, N.J.; five grandchildren.
A service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Rhodes United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lloyd C. Judy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church an hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at McDow Funeral Home from 7-8 tonight.
Pallbearers will be Lynwood Sandy, John B. Kent, Madison Rittenhouse, Jerry Campbell, Eugene Parr and John R. Mitchell Jr.
