Joseph was normally assigned to the 511th Bomber Squadron but was a substitution for this flight with the 509th.
He resided in Texas prior to the war.
This B-17 was returning to the United States following the conclusion of hostilities in Europe. They were flying from Polebrook in Northamptonshire to the RAF Valley Airfield on Anglesey before the final leg back to the United States.
The plane clipped high ground on a ridgeside, then skidded along the mountainside, and burst into flames.
Joseph died in this crash as one of twenty ( ten crew & ten passengers ) during the war.
He was originally interred in England and was later repatriated here on August 13, 1948
