Jane Ann Jones Gone

This week marks the passing of another of our older residents, Mrs. Jane Ann Jones, wife of Elisha Warren Jones and daughter of George and Margret Watson Pierce. She was born November 7 1853, Lothgalley, Fifeshire, Scotland. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1863, being baptized and confirmed by John Horrocks. She came to Utah in 1863 in Captain Hyde’s company with the team driven by John Muir. She was married to Elisha W. Jones on March 6 1870, and was the mother of 13 children: 7 sons and 6 daughters. The of the children survive her and nine of them were at the funeral services. Besides these she leaves her husband and 47 grand children together with many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the stake house at noon on Tuesday and were well attended. The services opened by the solo “My Prayer” sung by Jowett Fortie. Frederick Giles offered the opening prayer which was followed by the Heber first ward quartet singing “Sometime We’ll Understand.” Other musical numbers rendered were a solo by J. R. Smith “Mother” and “o, My Father” by the quartet.

Speakers on the occasion were J. F., D. Tomlinson, D. A. Broadbent, Patriarch Thomas Hicken and Patriarch Robert Duke.

Wm. Lindsay offered the closing prayer, after which the remains were interred in the Heber city cemetery.
