Sylvia Manders Crews, 52, passed away Sunday morning, (October 5, 2008) at her home in Nicholls, (Coffee Co) GA, with her children at her side, after her brave and valiant battle with breast cancer.

She is the daughter of Eugene and Louvenia Strickland Manders of Waycross, (Ware Co) GA. The oldest of four children, Sylvia was born in Jesup, (Wayne Co) GA on June 17, 1956.

She grew up in Brantley Co, GA, where she graduated from Brantley County High School in 1974. She enjoyed her years of playing basketball and cheerleading as a teenager. Sylvia made Waycross her home most of her life. Sylvia cherished her job working as a Registered Nurse and served her community for over 25 years. She became certified as a nurse specialist in Critical Care Nursing and Oncology Nursing. While undergoing chemotherapy treatments, she earned her bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree and was pursuing her Masters Degree in Nursing when God called her home. Sylvia was member of Georgia Nursing Association. Sylvia published her first children's book titled "Mikey Angel" in 2007 to help children who have been diagnosed with cancer and must undergo cancer treatment. Although she led a very active life for many years, her only true joys in her life were her children, Rebecca, Rachel and Preston.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Michael Manders.

Sylvia is survived by her three children, her daughter, Rebecca Harris Deal and Husband, Lindon Deal of Callahan, FL; her daughter, Rachel Harris Restrepo and Husband, Bernie Restrepo of Nicholls, GA and her son, Preston Leonard Harris of Hickox, GA. She is also survived by her parents, Eugene and Louvenia Manders, brother, Timmy Manders and sister, Cindy Manders Guy; two nieces, Danielle Manders and Lindsey McMillan. She is survived by two very dear friends, Linda Chesser and Leonard Harris. Sylvia also leaves behind a loyal companion of many years, her beloved cat, Chemo.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 to 10 p.m. at Chambless-Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta .

Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Chambless-Frye Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Dirst officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Hickox.

Pallbearers will be Bernie Restrepo, Lindon Deal, Jamie Lynn, Mikey Manders, Adrain Carter and Theron Strickland.
