Sally Ann Holmes, 80 of Little Rock, went to her eternal home on October 3, 2008. Sally was born on February 13, 1928 in Ravendon, Arkansas, as Jessie Loraine Dailey and was adopted by James and Mary Kathryn Gasdorf at the age of four.
Sally graduated from North Little Rock High School and from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she worked at the Missouri-Pacific Hospital before entering public health nursing. She was a public health nurse for Pulaski County for many years and worked for the Arkansas State Department of Health as a nursing home inspector. She also worked at the Veterans Hospital and the Arkansas State Hospital. She retired from the State of Arkansas with 30 years of service. She was a long time member of Rose Hill Church of the Nazarene.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Holmes, and her adopted brother, James Gasdorf.
She is survived by a son, John Martin Holmes II (Paula) of Birmingham, Alabama; one daughter, Mary Kathryn Stein (Charles) of Little Rock; and a sister, Mary Jane Branscomb (Calvin) of Eustis, Florida. Sally was proud of her seven grandchildren-Justin Holmes and Corey Holmes of Birmingham, Alabama; Carter Stein (Emily), and Krista Stein of Little Rock; Kurt Stein (Abby) of Dallas, Texas; Caleb Stein of Metzingen, Germany; and Sarah Mueller (Jon) of Newburg, Indiana. She also had two great-grandchildren, Ellen Louise Mueller and Bowman Conrad Stein.
The family would like to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Nursing Center for their care for Mrs. Holmes.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday, October 6, 2008 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, (501-224-8300). Interment will follow at the Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery, North Little Rock, Arkansas. Visitation will be held 4 to 6 P.M. Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the funeral home.
