Michael Fair is the youngest child of Johannes Fahr aka John Fair of Caernarvon Twp., Berks County, PA. Johannes immigrated to "The Colonies" 5 Sept 1751 on the Ship Shirley by way of Rotterdam and Scotland. Upon landing in Philadelphia, Johannes was registered by the harbor master. A copy of the original document can be found in Pennsylvania German Pioneers, Volume I, Page 530. The will of Johannes Fahr aka John Fair can be found in the Berks County Courthouse. The will is dated 1797. John Fair was a weaver and owned a grist mill in Berks County. John Fair passed away in August of 1808. His burial site is unknown. Michael's mother, Barbara, died in 1818 in Berks County. Her burial site is unknown.

Michael Fair had 6 brothers and one sister. Two brothers, Peter and John, also left Berks County and settled in Westmoreland County, PA. The other brothers, Phillip, Marx, Mathias and Jacob remained in Berks County. One brother, Marx aka Marks, who is my 4th great-grandfather, died in 1792 of unknown causes. Marks was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Michael's sister Anna Maria "Mary" #20746597 married George Hoffman #38467313 and is buried in the Rock Road Church Cemetery, Berks County, PA. Her memorial is in findagrave.

In the name of God Amen

I Michael Fair of the Township of Sugar Creek County of Armstrong, State of Pa., being of sound mind and memory, do make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament.

Having disposed of my real estate to my son John as is fully set forth in an article of agreement hearing Nov. 24th 1854---My will is this that one half of the acre that is left for a grave yard be fenced with posts and pine boards in a durable and workmanlike manor to be well painted with two coats of white lead and oil and that the death of myself and that of my wife Mary that there be set at our graves two sets of head and foot stones worth about ten dollars each set, this is to be out of the two hundred dollars that is coming to me from my son John after what he has agreed to pay other heirs- after these expenses is paid if there is any thing left either of personal property or money, the whole of my heirs is to divide it equally among themselves, and I hereby nominate my son Isaac and Phillip E----man to be my executors in witness hereof I have set my mark and requested the subscribing witnesses to witness the same, January 2, 1855

Further, it is my will and I order that the money arising by the sale of my real estate ( after charges are deducted) and the remainder of my personal estate shall be inhereited in eight equal shares, whereof my son Phillip shall have one share, and my son Jacob shall have one share, and my son Peter shall have one share and my daughter Mary one share and my son John one share and my son Mathias one share and my son Michael one share and one share shall be equally divided among all the children of my deceased son Marks that are not of age shall appoint, or have guardians appointed to take care of the Legacies

Children of Michael and Mary:

1. Sarah Fair, born 1800, married Peter Fair, son of a John Fair born 1770.
*2. Elizabeth Fair was born in 1802. She died in 1891. John Ellenberger's family were early settlers in Armstrong County. Pennsylvania. John was the son of Charles/Carl Ellenberger and Elizabeth Detter. Charles/Carl went to Armstrong County with his mother, Barbara, and his stepfather, Leonard Trees.
3. Johannes "John" Fair was born in April 1807 and baptized on 2 October 1808, the son of Michael Fehr, that is Fehr/Fair, and Maria. (Vol. II. German Church Records) John married in 1828 Mary Christman, the daughter of John Christman.
4. Isaac Fair was born in 1811. In 1832, he married first Catharin Staufer. Isaac married second, on 24 May 1874, Elizabeth Early, the daughter of Andrew Early and the widow of Mathias Wolfe.
5. Simon Fair was born on 28 June 1813. He married Catharin Booher.
6. Eli Fair was born in 1818. He married Anna Christman in 1836. Eli was listed in the Pittsburgh Synod-Lutheran Church, and later in the Allegheny Synod. In the 1860s, he was listed as living in Stevenson County, Illinois.

I am bound to them, though I cannot see their eyes or hear their voices. I honor their history. I cherish their lives. I will tell their story. I will remember them.
