Lafayette Bailey, 77 years old, a life-long and highly respected citizen of East Keyport, died at his home on Second Street, died at his home on Second Street, Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock after an illness of about two months duration.
Mr. Bailey was the son of John and Catherine Vanderbilt Bailey and had lived all his life in the vicinity where he was born. He was employed by Cornelius Post as a butcher for many years and when George Henn bought this business. Mr. Bailey continued to serve the same old customers behind the meat block. He was a retired member of Lincoln Hose Company, a member of the Exempt Firemen's Relief Association and the American Mechanics.
He was a member of Calvary M.E. Church for many years a member of the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday school. His wife, a son, Ernest G. Bailey, present fire chief, and a brother, Hendrick Bailey survive.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the house, conducted by the Rev. F.B. Whitaker pastor of Calvary M.E. Church.
Interment was in Green Grove Cemetery.
