addressed to Mr. W.H.S. Taylor Second Auditor Confederate States,
Dear Sir, I rec'd a statement from you June 17th, 1833 that you had received my claims on application for the pay of my husband Amos Guise late a Private of Capt. Nunamaker's Com. 3rd Regt.S.C.V. I am in very indigent circumstances and not hearing any thing more respecting it I thought I would write thinking that you might have overlooked my claims or forgotten it. If you can do any thing for me in the case it will be highly appreciated as times are very tight with me a poor widow soldier's wife. I remain yours with due respect. signed - Martha E Guise

His daughter, Margaret Elvie Guise married George Harrison Summer (son of William Leroy Summer & Polly Farr).

*Update 12-24-2010 -- location of death has been identified as the old resort of "Warren White Sulphur Springs, located along what is now Route 55, between Buckton and Waterlick, in Warren County, Virginia". This location had been inaccurately identified as a Union hospital in prior books. The location was rented by the ladies of the South Carolina Hospital Aid Association for use as a hospital when they learned the Army was ill equipped to handle the many sick and wounded. Updated information has been documented in Warren's Heritage, Journal of The Warren Heritage Society by Judith Pfeiffer - Volume IV 2009
Seven "indentions" have been found nearby; we have yet to learn if Amos and the others are still buried there.

Amos is the grandfather of:

Mary Alice Summer Shealy,
James Emmett Summer ,
Georgean Susan "Susie" Summer Eleazer,
Arthur Bunyon Summer Guise ,
Hugh Thompson "Tom" Summer ,
Samuel "Sam" J. Summer ,
Arabelle Levine Summer Stockman ,

A special Thank You to Miller Summer for preserving the letter and photo from Amos.
