He married his sweetheart 28 January 1914 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1919 Fred went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a carpenter repairing bridges and buildings and later as a foreman. He worked for the railroad until he retired.
In June of 1975 The Salt Lake Tribune wrote an article on Fred which in part reported: "When Fred Walk retired he used the woodworking skills he acquired repairing buildings and bridges for the railroad to make things for children and church organizations. He built children's rocking chairs, stoves, marble games, tables and chairs, and cupboards." Fred was never one to idol away his time and talents. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
Fred and Clara had four children: Marion Berkley, husband Val Berkley; Virginia Gee, husband Duane Marvell Gee; Meryl Asay, husband Vern Asay; Frederick David Walk Jr., wife Blanche B. Walsh.
Fred had thirteen brothers and sisters:

Fred passed away 3 May 1978 in the home of Duane and Virginia Gee in Fillmore, Utah. He was buried 8 May 1978 in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
