Our beloved mother, grandma, granny, GG (great-grandma), sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away at her home in Salt Lake City surrounded by her loving family.


Nita was born in Salt Lake City to John Yates and Martha Jessop Barlow, the second of fourteen children. She attended school in Cedar City, Utah. She worked in the electronics field. Nita married Heber Chase Smith Jr. in 1943; later divorced.


She is survived by her children, Gloria Jean (John) Willard, Carol B. (Bob) Ratterman, Sandra Barlow Smith McAffee, James Kimball (Helen) Smith; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Ada Rae and Veda; brothers, Joe, Dan, Alma, Truman, Sam, Alvin, and Nephi Barlow. She was truly loved by all and will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Louis, John, Martha and Mildred.


Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road. A viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Monday.
Interment: Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery.
