Paul Ervin, fourth child of Rothmer and Ruth (Joy) Scott, was born at Tuskeego, Iowa July 30, 1929 at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Scott. The first six years of his life were sent at Macksburg, Iowa, where his father was superintendent of the public school system. In November 1935, he moved with his parents to Lamoni where his happy boyhood days were spent.

In his home he was a cheerful lad of willing heart-a joy to his parents and a sought for companion among his playmates. He was active in play, enthusiastic in his work and responsive in worship.

When Paul was eight years old he was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. To its spirit and life he responded wholesomely and happily. This spirit carried over into his school life where he was dearly loved by his teacher and classmates. He was particularly happy in his association with the Cubs and because of his earnestness and enthusiasm, was recognized as the leader of his group. Already he is sadly missed by his Cub brothers and den mother.

On December 7, he fell ill with poliomyelitis. The community watched solicitously and prayerfully but finally came to the realization that Paul could stay no longer. In spite of all that loving hands and medical skill could perform, Paul passed from this life the evening of December 13, 1939 at the Decatur County Hospital.

Paul is survived by his parents, Rothmer and Ruth Scott, a sister Mara Lea, two older brothers, Edward and John, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Scott. Many other relatives and friends mourn the passing of this promising child.
