Ben Franklin Bowers, age 88 of Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008 in Paris Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bowers was born March 3, 1920 in the Aikin Grove Community of Red River County to Beal Venson and Ella Mae Proctor Bowers, Sr. He was retired from General Telephone with over 37 years of service to the Clarksville area. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, an avid sports fan and served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he faught in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife who he married on November 8, 1947 in Clarksville, Virginia Rose Bowers; son, David Bowers and wife Rogena of Clarksville; daughter, Deborah Broomfield and husband Bobby of Avery; sister, Inez Kertok of Norman, OK.; eight granddaughters; six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 3, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Dodson, Rev. Sam Rice and Dan Rose officiating. Burial will follow in New Shamrock Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Danny Rose, Eddie Rose, Greg Jackson, R.L. Broomfield, Ryan Bartlett and Mark Kertok. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Bowers, Herbert Johnson, Lonnie Sutterfield and Roy Dale Bray.
