Mr. Robert "Elzria" Crews, 72, died Thursday (October 1, 2008) at his residence following an extended illness.
He was a native of Brantley County but had resided in Ware County most of his life. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jackson Dylan Crews; his parents, Ira J. Crews and Neva Dixon Crews; two sisters, Frances Hyers and Martha Lee Crews; and three brothers, Farley Crews, Archie B. Crews, and Reppard Crews.
He was retired from Dixie Roadbuilders and worked for 12 years for the Braganza Forestry Commission during the 1955 fire. He was a member of Sweat Memorial Baptist Church and the Joymakers.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Aldridge Crews of Waycross; a daughter, Pam Crews Johnson (husband Mike) of Waycross; two sons, Coy Crews and Roy Crews (wife Nikki) both of Waycross; three grandchildren, Jayson Crews (wife Denise), Chris Johnson, and Steven Johnson; two great grandchildren, Siena Crews and Jayce Crews; a step granddaughter, Kim Ellis; three sisters, Mary Thomas of Waycross, Mattie Lou Cohen of Douglas, Thelma Strickland (husband Hubert) of Jacksonville, FL ; two brothers, Fleming Crews and Whitmer Crews (wife Ermaline) both of Hoboken; two sister-in-laws, Vannie Crews of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Crews of Hoboken; a brother-in-law, Bennie Hyers of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (October 4, 2008) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in High Bluff Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday night from 6 until 8. The Gene Roberson Adult Sunday School Class are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:40 p.m. Saturday to serve as honorary pallbearers.
