Services for Carl Wayne Atwood, 79, Pine Springs are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark E. Towns officiating.

Burial will follow in the Pine Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Directors.

Mr. Atwood passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 in an Oakwood Nursing home in Whitehouse. He was ready to be with Jesus and his sweet wife, Mary Helen Walker Atwood (2002) .

He was born March 4, 1926 in Pine Springs to Betty Shamburger Atwood and John Gordon Atwood.

He lived his life in Pine Springs with his loving wife and family. He was a Navy Seabee during World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 12. He was a member of the Pine Springs Baptist Church. He loved to entertain people and make them laugh. Growing roses in his early career lead to his retirement with the Powell Plant Farm as a plant grower.

His parents, Betty and John Atwood; six brothers, Tom Atwood, Earl, Atwood, Dick Atwood, Wilburn Atwood, Lyle Atwood and Rusty Atwood and wife Mary Helen Walker Atwood, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving sons and daughter-in-law, Fred Wayne Atwood and wife Berthena Atwood of Tyler, Johnny Paul Atwood and wife Sally Atwood of Pine Springs; four grandchildren, Jeff Atwood, Jake Dixon, Calli Williams and Christina Atwood; his two sisters, Evelyn Moffitt and Dorothy Butterfield; stepchildren, Tonya and John Blasingame; nephews, Gordon Atwood, Sam Atwood, Roy Jack Atwood; niece, Betty Wise, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Pallbearers are Roy Jack Atwood, Lee White, Jim Todd, Jake Dixon, John Blasingame and Steve Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Larry Atwood, Ronnie Atwood, Gordon Atwood and Sam Atwood.

Family will receive friends at the Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home, 215 E. Front St., Tyler, Wednesday between 5 and 7 p.m. If desired, memorials may be made to the Pine Springs Baptist Church or the Alzheimers Association.
