SISTER LAKES - Jacqueline "Jackie" Ausra, 74, of Sister Lakes, began
life on May 19, 1934, in Eau Claire, Michigan, the daughter of Jesse
Paul and Janice (Fernham) Calvin. She was united in marriage to
Robert Ausra on December 30, 1951, in the Methodist parsonage in
Dowagiac. Jackie worked for the Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce for
several years and she always worked side-by-side with her loving
husband at Ausra Equipment and their other enterprises. As a young
lady she played piano in her father's band the "5 Foot 2s" at the Wayne Grange and
other places. She loved to garden and growing her flowers. She canned her own
produce for the family and always made sure everyone was taken care of. Jackie was a
superb cook and her ham was legendary at family gatherings. She and Bob enjoyed
their winters in Texas where she also kept a flower garden. Jackie was a member of
the Loyal Order of the Moose Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Beta Sigma Phi
Sorority - Theta Mu Chapter. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her
husband, Robert Ausra of Sister Lakes; children, Steve (Diana) Ausra, Bob (Patty)
Ausra, Larry (Vicki) Ausra, Linda (Gray) Preston and Michael (Anita Pompey) Ausra, al l
of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Rebecca Ausra, Steve (Samantha) Ausra, Rob Ausra, Erin
Ausra, Sara Ausra, Karen Ausra, Christopher (Mary) Ausra, Jesse Preston, Easton
Preston, Thomas Preston and William Preston; great-grandchildren, Hunter Ausra,
Tyler Ausra, Trey Morgan, Payton Morgan and Michaiah Ausra; sisters, Linda (David)
Hillman of Henderson, NV, and Sandra Jane Calvin of San Francisco; many nieces and
nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Jackie passed away on Tuesday,
September 23, 2008, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was preceded in
death by grandsons, Joseph Ausra and Gray Preston Jr., a granddaughter, Jessica
Ausra, and her parents. Her family will receive friends on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.
and Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where her funeral
service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m., led by Pastor John Kasper of the Dowagiac
First United Methodist Church. She will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart of Mary
Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Indian Lake
