Dora was born in Pettis County, the daughter of Rev. Samuel P. McDaniel (a Disciples of Christ or Christian Church pastor) and Eleanor Jane Wood McDaniel. Her siblings were Abbie (1867-1965), Charles (1872-1891), Albert (my much-loved Uncle Jack, who, when i was little, lived at her house in the country before she moved to town)(1874-1954), Harry (1877-1879), Eleanor (Ella)(1880-1928), Samuel Pemberton (1882-1957), Emma (1884-1968), and Jean (1887-1974). She went to Warrensburg Teachers' College and taught school. On 22 Oct. 1895 she married Thomas Lillard ('TL' or Lillard) Robinson in Warrensburg. He had graduated in law from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Dora and TL farmed near Grandview, Missouri, throughout most of their adult lives, though he did practice law and was active in small-town politics. Their children were Fannie Lillard (1898-1956), Eleanor Wood (1902-1999)(born in Garden City or Pierceville, Gray, Kansas, as TL and Dora had a farm there for a brief period), Mary Bright (1903-1991), Frank Gentry (1906-1976), and Jerry Vardeman (1908-1969). (The children married, respectively, F. Arthur Botts, Hubert W. Collins, W. Harold Hamilton, Luella A. Fehr, and Edith Imboden.) Dora died of leukemia in a hospital in Kansas City, much loved by her family, and was buried in Belton, Cass County, Missouri, where the Robinsons had family buried. Her parents are also in that cemetery, as are her daughters Mary Hamilton and Fannie Lillard Botts and her son Jerry. The family attended the First Baptist Church in Grandview and Dora was quite proud of having been greeted by Pres. Harry S. Truman when he came to Grandview for the church building dedication (she and his mother were friends, but she had to visit Mrs. Truman as Mrs. Truman did not enjoy going to visit friends with an entourage of Secret Service).
