HOLTON -- Aileen Barnes, 92, Holton, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at a Holton nursing home.
Mrs. Barnes was a telephone operator for more than 30 years. She retired from the United Telephone Co. in 1972. She and her husband also farmed southwest of Holton until 1983.
She was born June 23, 1907, at Soldier, the daughter of Tom and Effie Fairbank Pollock. she attended Holton High School. She had lived in Holton since 1983.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of First Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, Rebekah Lodge No. 3 and the Friendship Club, all in Holton.
She married Russell Barnes on Feb. 8, 1928, in Topeka. He died Feb. 8, 1985. Mrs. Barnes also was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Patrice Jo Barnes.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Barnes, Newton, and Joe Barnes, Holton; a brother, Ivan Pollock, Holton; a sister, Barbara Pendleton, Topeka; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.
Burial will be at Holton Cemetery.
Mrs. Barnes will lie in state until service time at the funeral home, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holton Community Hospital Home Health or to Jackson County Senior Citizens Home Delivered Meals and sent in care of the funeral home.
