William McKinley (Bill) Brackett was born April 17, 1888, at Raymondville, Texas County, Missouri area, the son of Almoren Russell Brackett and Mahala (Roper) Brackett. His mother died in 1894 giving birth to his brother, Carl Willard Brackett leaving eight children,motherless. His father went to serve in the Spanish-American war and returned blind. The 1900 U. S. census shows William to be living with his paternal grandparents, Joel Whitman Brackett and Hannah (Russell) Brackett. It is not known when he moved to the Eufaula area but the 1930 U. S. census shows him in Eufaula married to Pearl May Dunlay Brackett with their children, McKinley A. Brackett, Mary Ann (Nearvie) Brackett, his step-daughter, Ellen Skinner and his Aunt Amy Wilson (his father's sister).
Mr. Brackett passed away July 30, 1969, at the Eufaula Nursing Home. He was a retired farmer. Services were held Friday, August 1, 1969 at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church with burial following in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kelley Funeral Home. Rev. M. C. Salters officiated.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl of the Eufaula Nursing Home; one son, Arthur of Coolidge, Arizona; three daughters, Mrs. Johnny Miller of Picher, Mrs. Mary Davis of Maricopa, Arizona, Mrs. Minnie Medford of Ponca City; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ellen Cobb of Ponca City; and three brothers; Joe W. Brackett of Concord, Arkansas; James Blane Brackett of Locust Grove, Arkansas, and Carl Willard Brackett, of Stidham, Oklahoma.
