Walter began his 50 year railroad career in February 1880 as fireman on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy running between Chicago and Galesburg. He & Alice made their home in Aurora, IL. In 1882 he was transferred to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern, where he worked until 1886, when he was transferred to the St. Paul & Northwestern RR in Albert Lea, MN and remained there for 4 years returning to Cedar Rapids. He was transferred to Des Moines, IA when the road was built between Des Moines and St. Joseph, MO, eventually being transferred to Sycamore, IL. He retired as a Locomotive Engineer on November 30, 1935 and moved to Long Beach, CA then to Fresno,CA. Walter became a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers in 1887and Alice joined the auxiliary of the same lodge. He was also a life member of the Masonic Lodge.

Gravesite Details

In response to photo request,14kAUK9 on 23 Aug 2019 inquired at cemetery and was informed that Walter & Alice were cremated and buried here with no grave markers.
