George Lozelle Kunkler, son of Jacob and Margaret Kunkler, was born July 25, 1897 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, and died February 28, 1949 at the age of 51 years, 7 months and three days.
The family moved to Holton in 1909 where Lozelle has since resided. He received his education in the Holton schools, leaving high school in his senior year to enter the Army. He returned to school and graduated with his class in 1919, being the only boy in the class.
After graduation, Lozelle worked in the Schillinger Furniture store, then in the postal service and was manager of the A & P store for 14 years.
Lozelle is survived by his wife, Grace and two daughters, Margaret Ellen and Suzanne and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Morey of Phoeniz, Arizona.
Funeral services were from St. Dominic’s Catholic Church at 9:30 Thursday morning with burial in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Graveside services were conducted by members of the American Legion of which Lozelle was a member.
Those attending the funeral from out of the city were Mrs. M.E. Kunkler and daughter, Mrs J.B.Hillman of St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Paul Kunkler and daughter, Mary Adele of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. James Griffin, Kansas City, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. George Gano of Centralia; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hossfeld of Topeka; C.E.Holmes and Miss Mary Bergen of Wichita.
Pall bearers attending Lozelle were: Warren Bottenberg, Bob Utterback, Dan Crummey, John McAsey, Leo Fagan, and George Bhear.
