The decedent is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R. L. McGuire of this city, Mrs. B. C Richie of Georgetown, Ill,; two sons, R. L. Leaverton of this city, S. J. Leaverton of Chatham; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Caroline Todd of Sea Breeze, Fla., Mrs. Arabella Davis of Highland, Kas.; one brother, Benjamin F. Johnson of Leavenworth, Kas.
Mrs. Leaverton was born in Pocahontas county, Bond county, Ill., July 24, 1828, being the daughter of Benjamin F., and Rebecca Johnson, pioneers of Illinois. She was married to Wilson Leaverton, Aug. 28, 1851. The couple resided in Bond county until 1872, when they removed to Sangamon county, settling near Chatham, where they resided twenty-two years. They moved to Springfield in 1893. Mr. Leaverton's death occurred Sept. 16, 1895. Mrs. Leaverton was a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal church, being affiliated with the first M. E. church of this city. She was possessed of a kind and benevolent disposition and was prominent in all charitable work. She assisted materially in the building of the new Douglas avenue M. E. church.
