He was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Stevens Point. Son of the late Victor and Lillian (Strike) Zmuda. George entered the US Army on Oct. 15, 1940, in Stevens Point and served as a Tech 5. He served in New Guinea. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and five Overseas service bars. He was honorably discharged Aug. 16, 1945 at Camp McCoy.
His marriage to Dorothy Roshak took place Sept. 14, 1946, in Waupaca. She survives.
He was employed at Worzalla publishing as a letter pressman for 40 years. George was an avid ice fisherman and loved gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; four daughters, Carol Konopacki, Stevens Point, Jane (Steve) Duckwitz, West Bend, Laura (Tim) Shannon, Stevens Point, Dorea (Pete) Engebretson, Stevens Point; one son, John (Barbara) Zmuda, Stevens Point; seven grandchildren, Karla, Kelly, Chris, Joe, Eva, Jillian, Stefanie; and three great grandsons.
Preceded in death by his parents; step father, August Lishinski; two brothers John, Clarence and one son in law, Marv Konopacki.
A Graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, in the Guardian Angel Cemetery.
