John was the middle child of seven children of James Curran and Rose (Prior) Curran. He and his siblings were born in the townland of Altinure in the North-central part of Corlough Parish. Altinure is in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Bawnboy. He came to the US sometime prior to Oct 9, 1888 which is the date he married Mary Ann (Anderson)at St Bridget's Church in Falls of Schuylkill, Philadelphia. He and Mary Ann had 2 sons, James in 1889 and John 2 years later. The elder John was killed by a train while waiting for his morning newspapers at the train station.
