Company H 106th New York Infantry RegimentHenry was the son of Moses B. and Betsey Ann(Magoon)Smith. He married Hannah Jane Bohart on24 August, 1861, in Malone,N.Y., by the Rev. Ashbel Parmelee. He enrolled in Co."H", 106th N.Y.Infantry(to serve three years). While he was in the army a son was born to Henry and Hannah on 18 January, 1863, in Peru,N.Y. which they named, Henry Harrison Smith,Jr. Henry,Sr. was never to see his son. He was killed during the third Battle of Winchester,VA. Aproximately 60 of his letter to his family have been preserved by his g.g grandneice, Audrey Lehr of Red Granite,WI. Henry's body was never identified at the time the remains of those soldiers killed at the Battle of Winchester were transferred to a common grave in the Winchester National Cemetery, at Winchester,VA.
