505th Airborne Infantry,
82nd Airborne Division

Hometown: Fulks Run, Virginia
Enlistment: Dec. 17, 1942
DOD: Jan. 5, 1945, Stavelot, Belgium at the Battle of the Buldge

Final Resting Place: Winchester National Cemetery,
Dec. 7, 1945

The 505th earned the nickname "Devils in Baggy Pants" during a 1944 campaign in Italy.

Soldiers were trained to parachute into enemy territory and conduct sabotage operations behind enemy lines, as well as offensive coastal operations.

Sager survived four combat jumps in Sicily, Italy, France and Holland.

But during the Battle of the Buldge, the allies pressed everyone into service truck drivers, cooks, paratroopers, and used them as infantrymen.

Sager whom was known to dislike cold weather and vacationed in Flordia, was fighting during Western Europe's coldest winter in 50 years.

During the January action, the "Devils" sustained significant losses while defeating a heavily armed German Battalion.
