My husband Buddy Monday and his cousin Buddy Stephens just happened to be coming by the house and saw it on fire, they called fire department and both tried to save Jewell. They couldn't find her in the dense smoke and she had already passed out from the smoke. After the body was found, Buddy Monday said he came with an arms reach of her but did not know it at the time. So sad, such a lost and it has haunted Buddy Monday and I am most sure Buddy Stephens also, that they were unable to save her, but at least they tried and did the best they could.
I am sure Jewell would appreciate their efforts!
