Bertha Margaret Risden was born on April 3, 1907 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio to Spencer Risden and Dulcena Heckathorn Risden. She was the last child of Dulcena, who had been married two previous times and had ten other children. Bertha lived her entire life in East Liverpool and met her husband, Paul J. Lemal there, as well. They married November 21, 1925 and had a daughter, Susanna in 1927. Bertha died on December 27, 1968.
