Canton – Alvin E. Larson, age 81 died Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Canton Good Samaritan Society. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Canton Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery near Canton. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 6-8 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.

Alvin Larson was born October 16, 1926 in Canton, SD to Emil and Alma Larson. He graduated from Canton High School in 1944 . He married Dolores (Menholt) Ness on September 5, 1964 . Alvin farmed in the Canton area until his retirement in 1993 .

Alvin loved bowling and golf. He was also an avid fan of all sports and faithfully followed his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He worked with local youth baseball programs and was part of the "chain gang" for the Canton High School football team for many years. He was on the school board of Hokenstead Country School District, a charter member of Sons-of-Norway, and a lifelong member of Canton Lutheran Church.

(Chad) Johnson, Kellie Ridpath, Derek (Brandi) Ridpath, Debbie Ridpath, Brent (Gina) Huyser, Heather (Gary) Brands, Lucas Huyser, Chelsie Hermsen, Brooke Hermsen, Chet Hermsen, Taylor Hermsen, Tyler Larson, and Bryant Larson; great-grandchildren – Cole VanBockern, Kimberly Van Bockern, Kelsey Johnson, Brianna Ridpath, Brycen Brands, and Emersyn Brands; sisters – Christine McVay and Ivy Silvis; nieces Zona (Larson) Hornstra, Debbie (Silvis) Hartman; nephews – Randy Silvis and Curtis Silvis.
