Frank H. Boone, 77, of 50 Biggerstaff Road, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 1995, at his home. He was the son of the late John Nathan and Nola Sparks Boone. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Spruce Pine, and a retired
foreman with Feldspar Corp. in Connecticut. He was a veteran of World War II where he received the bronze
and silver stars. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Viola Conley McLucas Boone. He is survived by hts wife, Hazel Phillips Boone; stepmother, Nola B.

Boone Jr. of Bakersville, Charles Boone of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Worley Boone of Conover, Howard, Donald and Ronnie Boone of Atlanta, Ga.; stepsister, Jean McLucas Hamer of Florence, S.C.; stepbrothers, Virgil Boone
of Atlanta, Ga., James Boone of Newdale, Dr.John McLucas of Alexandria, Va. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Spruce Pine, with the Revs. Gale Lammey and Olin Hefner officiating. Burial will be in Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Webb Funeral Home.

Awarded Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action on February 3, 1945 in France.Sgt Boone placed his machine gun section in position to cover his company as the men withdrew to stronger positions under a severe counterattack. In the face of intense enemy machine gun and tank fire he selected the fields of fire and accurately directed the fire of his machine guns, checking the enemy advance. Having accomplished his mission, he was moving back to rejoin his company when he heard two soldiers calling for help from a nearby field. Leaving his section in charge of the second in command, he courageously moved across the open terrain. An enemy machine gun opened fire on him, bursting tank shells several times threw him to the ground and shell fragments tore through his equipment, but Sergeant Boone gallantly continued on his mission and made two trips across the 800 yard of fire-swept terrain to carry the wounded soldiers to safety. Entered the Service from Boonford, North Carolina.
