Ethel Knowles Biltcliffe


Born February 23, 1916 in Rhode Island, Ethel was the only child of the late Herbert and Eva Knowles and spent most of her young life in Rhode Island. After moving to Charlotte as a young bride, Ethel and Eddie raised their children and spent most of their life in the Oakdale community.

She retired from Rohm & Haas Company where she had been an Executive Secretary and was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Ethel was a former Royal Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Long Creek Chapter No. 151, as well as a former Grand Royal Matron of Cardinal Court, Order of Amaranth of North Carolina, a member of the Areme Shrine No. 3 and the Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Ethel is survived by three children: sons, Edwin Biltcliffe, III and Donald Biltcliffe (Myra), and daughter, Barbara Biltcliffe Wilson; seven grandchildren, April Crowder, DeAnna Smith, Richard Biltcliffe, Kenneth Biltcliffe, Darin Wilson, Lori Fleming and DeLisa Wilson; and nine great grandchildren.

Her husband, Edwin Biltcliffe, Jr., preceded her in death.
