Published in The Alabama Courier, Athens, AL, Thursday, January 20, 1944.

Word was received in Athens early Tuesday morning of the death of PFC Macon L. Lamon, killed in action in the South Pacific area. He was a member of the parachute troops of the U.S. Army.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Lamon of the Tanner community. His aunts, Mrs. Lewis Speake, Mrs. Leemon Henderson and Mrs. Jack Griffis live in Athens.
PFC Lamon was barely 18 and had been in the Army only about a year.
A wide circle of friends deeply sympathize with the grief stricken parents. Another of their sons was killed in a car wreck a few years ago (George Reed Lamon).
