Henry is a son of John and Louisa (?) Hegwald. He was born in Rosenfelt, Russia. He married Margaret Kniss in 1890, they have thirteen children. The family came to the United States in 1912.

Henry Hegwald, 64, died about 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 24, 1934 at St Mary’s hospital at Emporia, Kansas, where he had been for two weeks. Mr Hegwald had been bedfast since before Christmas. He had been a resident of this section since 1912. Mr Hegwald is survived by his wife and eleven children. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon from the home 2 1/2 miles southwest of Burlington, Kansas, and will be in [the] charge of Reverend S H Barley, pastor of the Burlington Christian church. Interment will be in the Big Creek cemetery, Monday afternoon. Mrs C B Shull and Mrs Burt Knowles sang “Rock of Ages” and “Abide With Me”. Pallbearers were: Earl Son, W P Grose, Jim Pennington, Art Stewart, Adolph Wiegand and Ernest Leebold.

Henry Hegwald was born to John and Louise Hegwald on May 4, 1869, in Rosenfelt, Russia, where his family migrated from Germany. He died February 24, 1934, at the age of 65 years, 9 months, 20 days. He was united in marriage to Margaret Kniss December 25, 1890. This union was blest with eleven children, six boys and five girls. He came with his family to Coffey county, Kansas December 11, 1912. He endured many hardships to furnish a good home for his family.

Besides his dear faithful wife, he leaves to mourn his loss, the following children: Mrs Jake Kniss, Burlington; Henry Hegwald Jr, Burlington; Mrs Philip Risebig, Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs Johnnie Shrimplin, Burlington; Jake Hegwald, Burlington; Mrs Edwin Meyer, LeRoy; Mrs Roy Earl Breon, LeRoy; Alexander Hegwald, Burlington; John, Benjamin, and George of the home. He also leaves eighteen grandchildren, a niece, Mrs Conrad (Amelia Hegwald) Kraft, of Gridley; a nephew, John Hegwald, Lincoln, Nebraska. He was the last of his brothers to be called to Glory, but the first in this family. A few relatives and many friends survive.
