According to Ruth Godwin Gadbury's GODWIN-HILL AND RELATED FAMILIES, 1980: Coming from Tennessee with the Hill's was a Stephen Hickman, 1825-1906, who had considerable money. He lived with the Hills, remained single, and died leaving his money to some nieces and nephews and the Elijah A. Hill family, except for $500 designated for his grave monument, 4 cypress cedars, and a fence around it all. The money left the Hill family caused considerable friction among the children and in-laws.
This money, with close management on Lige Hill's part, made it possible for him to loan his children and other kin money to finance homes and farming operations. [Ruth Godwin Gadbury]
This family lived next door to the James Dudley family which was mentioned as party givers in a letter to Nollie Hill from Pearl Aldridge in 1904-01-23. [pjsw, 2007]
