Stella was born to John Elbert Wilcox and his wife Helen Mar McCullough Wilcox in Coyote (later named Antimony), Utah. She was close with her "double cousin" born to David Oswell Wilcox and Frances Melissa McCullough. Both families moved to Idaho along with some of the other Wilcox sibling families. Stella continued to live in her own home for several years, but spent time living near or with her children. She continued to work in the temple on a regular basis as long as her health allowed.
