Bertha Schneider Keller
Bertha Schneider Keller, the daughter of Henry H. and Mary Heinze Schneider, was born November 19, 1906, on a farm near Wilson, Kansas. She died January 10, 1987, at the Downs Nursing Center. She was 80 years of age.
Bertha attended the Lincoln County Rural Schools. On October 13, 1926, she was united in marriage to Dave Keller. They first lived on a farm in Osborne County and later moved to a farm in the Dispatch area of Jewell County. Dave died on November 19, 1968. It was then that Bertha built a house and moved to Downs next to her parents on Delaware Street.
She was a member of the Downs United Methodist Church, the Irving Community Club and the Silver and Gold Club. She was a participant in the Senior Citizen activity especially enjoyed quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dave, and a brother, Sam. She leaves to mourn her passing, one brother, Charles of Hunter; three sisters, Mrs. Esther Steinle of Lucas, Mrs. Lily Doll of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mrs. Bette Land of Joplin, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, January 13, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. at the Downs United Church with Rev. Ralph Rosenblad officiating. The hymns "In the Garden" and Beyond the Sunset" were by soloist Mrs. Betty Banks accompanied by Mrs. George Domoney organist.
The following served as bearers: Duane Steinle, Delmer Mettlen, Frank Princ, Gary Babas, Don Princ and Alan Rabas. Burial was made in the Downs Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Downs Senior Citizens Center or the Downs United Methodist Church. Domoney Funeral Home of Downs was in charge of arrangements.
