Andrew J. Baker, owner of Baker Funeral Home in Lutesville, passed away Monday in a Cape Girardeau hospital, where he had been a patient for several days. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Baker, he was born in Bollinger County on May 5, 1885.
He attended schools in this county and later served the county as sheriff from 1920-1925, and also held office of associate county judge and coroner. In 1925 he established Baker Funeral Home in Lutesville and was active in the business until the time of his death.
In December 1909 he was married to Miss Dova Cox.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Zalma, receiving his 50 year pin in December 1958.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Graham and Mrs. Nellie Francis, both of Lutesville; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Nora Baumgartner of San Diego, CA; Mrs. Alpha Baker of Sikeston, MO; and Mrs. Lillian Estes of Alamogordo, NM; and one brother, Rev. C.R. Baker of Sedgewickville, MO.
Two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
The body was taken to Brinkopf-Howell Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau and to Baker Funeral Home on Tuesday. On Thursday he will be taken to the Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held with Rev. O.D. Niswonger and Rev. H.H. Murdick officiating. Interment will be in Baker Cemetery with Masonic rites at the grave.
