SALEM - Dorothy Elsa (Cover) Cope 87, of Salem, peacefully died at 1:15 PM Friday, September 12, 2008 and went home to be with her Lord, from the Hospice House in Poland, Ohio.

She was born on January 29, 1921 in Hubbard, Ohio to the late Carlos and Grace (Williamson) Cover.

Dorothy was a person that was not a stranger to anyone. She was a Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and enjoyed life to its fullest.

She came to Salem in 1956 coming from the Leetonia area. She was an orchard worker for various farms in the area and last worked for Less Farms. A 1938 graduate of Boardman High School, a former member of the Salem VFW Aux. Post # 892, Salem Senior Citizens, AARP, Good Sam's Club, and the Butler Art Institute, and Salem area retired workers.

Dorothy was a member of the Ohio Genealogy Society and was honored as being of the First Families of Ohio in Columbus. She and her husband Jay were officers in the Civil Air Patrol, and their family were members of various churches over the years in the area, and currently Dorothy was an active member of the Salem First United Methodist Church were she served in the choir.

In 1995, Dorothy wanted to go to Kent State University Salem to take an art class of Dr. Day's, and she kept on going to take over 68 classes and was planning to go this fall to take another class. There were only a few classes she never took. She was Mom, Grandma to many students and staff at KSU Salem. She was a member of ALOC (Adult Learners On Campus), a member of NEXUS and the choir of the college.

She is survived by a daughter Marilyn L. Lutsch of Salem and a son Larry N. and Kathy Cope of Pataskala, her grand daughters, Lynn, Marty and Jason, her great grand daughters, Maggie, Jamie, Terri, Jordon, Alexus, Jessica, and her great grand sons, Kyle, Shane, Aaron, and Jacob.

She is preceded in death on July 24, 1995 by her husband Jay W. Cope whom she married on November 1, 1940, her sister Helen Flick, and her brothers Clarence 'Tony' Cover, Donald C. Cover, and Paul H. Cover, and one great grand daughter Abby Abbott.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at the Salem First United Methodist Church with Pastor P. Douglas George of the Church officiating, burial will follow in the New Waterford Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 PM and from 6 to 8 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 PM Tuesday in the Parlor of the church.
