Ella Irene Allen, 83, died peacefully April 9, 2008 at South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington, NV.

Ella was born to Joseph McClellan and Francis Eula Hayden near Hannibal, Missouri on October 21, 1924. Ella moved west with her family during World War II, working in Wendover, NV before moving to Reno.

She married George W. Allen September 3, 1944 and moved to Smith Valley, NV. Ella was an active member of her community enjoying social events and playing bridge.

She became hot lunch cook at Smith Valley Schools in the 1950's. George and Ella moved to Yerington, NV in late 1967 after George was elected Sheriff of Lyon Co. Ella became head cook for the Yerington school system until her retirement in 1987. Ella's great meals and famous rolls were enjoyed by many generations of Lyon County residents.

Ella and George moved back to Smith Valley after his retirement and Ella stayed in Smith Valley after George's death. She moved to Mason Valley Residence in 1996 and resided there in good physical and mental health, enjoying evenings with her friend, Ken. Ella loved playing bridge with her longtime friends and traveling and spending holidays with her family. She was surrounded by many wonderful people and a caring and professional staff. Thank you all.

Ella was preceded in death by her husband, George; her father, Clell; mother, Eula; sisters, Mildred, Reva and Madeline; brothers, Darrell and Harold; and daughter, Eva Irene Saunders.

Ella is survived by a son, Willis (Miriam) Allen; stepdaughter, Ardell (Bill) Young; grandchildren: Eve Allen, David Allen and step-granddaughter, Georgia (Brian) Loy all of Reno, and grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tim) Ichord, of Smith Valley and Meghan (Todd) Hardesty, of NC; and great-grandchildren: Samantha Loy, Taylor and Mason Ichord and Jac Hardesty.

Services will be held Thursday April 24, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Smith Valley Community United Methodist Church, 44 Rivers Road, Smith.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Yerington Senior Citizens Center, 117 Tilson Way, Yerington, NV 89447.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, NV 89447.

Ella will be remembered as a kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
