Father: Murray THAYER b: 6 JAN 1785 in Braintree, Norfolk, MA.
Mother: Keziah BARROW b: 1788 in Amherst, MA.

Marriage: Mary Anna TRENT b: 22 APR 1832 in PA.
Married: 14 AUG 1851 in Allegany Co., MD.

Resided during the early part of the Civil War in the old hotel at Oakland, which stood on the site of the present Bishoff Hotel, later the Union soldiers used this building as barracks. The present Hotel building was built by Mrs. Lon Thayer Waters about 1902. During the War, Union troops "pressed" Wright Thayer's team and wagon to haul supplies; while crossing Cheat River at St. George the swift current carried the horses and wagon down stream, but Wright, a strong swimmer, and his companion reached the shore in safety. The official papers in this case were lost and Thayer was not reimbursed for his horses and wagon. Wright Thayer finally located on the Deep Creek Farm where he built a large frame house and barn near the old Thayer homestead. He and his wife are buried in the family graveyard, a well kept private owned cemetery.
