Stephen Jewett, IV, was born March 3, 1806, Sidney, Maine; the son of War of 1812, Capt. Stephen Jewett, III, (@ Augusta, Maine) of Hollis, N.H., and wife Elizabeth Barker. He arrived then Smithville, now Southport, N.C., in the 1830's as U.S. postmaster. There he wed a school mistress kin of Dr. John 'Banks' Hill, entombed 'Orton Plantation'. Mary B. Gracie Jewett died on a trip to, and was buried Southern Pines / Pinehurst, N.C. Jewett 2nd wed, Dr. Hill's kinswoman, Lucy Anna Bradley, the daughter of officer of the Bank of Cape Fear (signed it's money) Richard Bradley, Jr., and 2nd wife Eliza Claudia Yonge. Richard incorporated the Wilmington & Seaboard (steam) Rail Road, later the trolley line from Wilmington, across Bradley's Creek, to Hammock Island, opposite Wrighsville Beach, N.C.Their issue: Sgt. Stephen Bradley, V, CSA, who wed Sallie Wallace Carpenter and Isabel R. Carpenter, and removed to Florida. Wm. Lord Jewett who wed Annie Rosalie Sanford. My, Eliza Yonge Jewett, 2nd wife of Epis. Rev. Edward Wootten, CSA, Sgt. & Lt. (son of Shadrack 'Shade' & Mary Eliza Murphey Wooten of Pitt Co/. N.C.). Henry Bradley Jewett wed Eliza Jane Dunham. Lucy Owen Jewett, not married. James Giles Jewett. died a child. Frank Churchill Jewett, unmarried. Robert Drane Jewett, MD, wed Susan Rowena Phillips and Frances Hardin. Sidney Johnson Jewett, died a child. Stephen Jewett, IV, signed Bank of Wilmington money as "S. Jewett". His descendants owned the home were the exterior shots of the TV series "One Tree Hill" were shot on the sound. They had a Jewett automobile with massive pistons.
