Emma was born to parents Gottfried (Godfrey) Henning and Barbara Mathias (AKA Mathis). She was one of five children. At various times, she was a seamstress, ironer, paper company worker, and grocer in her own store. She married Walter E. Stevensen on July 01, 1893 in Louisville, KY. They had one child: Grace J. Stevenson (King). By 1910, Emma was divorced. She died of a coronary occulusion, and was buried in Calvary Cemetery on January 24, 1939.
