Jerome Mauk was born August 27, 1869 in Glasgow, Ky., the eldest son of Jesse and Susan Mauk, and died March 17, 1941 at his home in Talmo, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 20 days.

When he was one year old, the family moved to Asherville, where he grew to manhood.

In 1897 he was married to Miss Kate Forney, and four children, two sons and two daughters, were born to them. A son, Charley Mauk of Concordia, and daughter, Mrs. George Bliss, preceded him in death.

Fifty-four years of his life were spent in the employ of the Union Pacific, which organization chose him from all their employes (sic) to attend a safety meeting in New York. Here he received honor for his perfect record of 55 years' service with no reportable accidents.

He was a loving husband and a devoted father, and will be sadly missed by his wife and children, and his many friends and relatives.

Left to mourn are his wife and two children, Lon Mauk of Talmo and Mrs. Frank R. Benton of Tucson, Ariz., who were with him at the time of his death; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, which had charge of the funeral services at the church and at the cemetery. The Rev. P.O. Davis of Belleville preached the funeral sermon, and the body was laid to rest in the Union cemetery (sic) east of Talmo.
