Norma E. Meier, 77, of rural Parsons, died Friday evening, at her residence. Her death was unexpected.

She was born on June 8, 1931 at Morehead, Kansas to Dow and Mable (Cadle) Morris. She grew up at Morehead and attended schools there and at Altamont. She graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1949.

She and John Meier were united in marriage on November 18, 1950 at the Washington Avenue Methodist Church Parsonage. He survives of the home.

They moved to San Antonio where he served in the military for two years. They returned to Parsons where they farmed in two locations east of Parsons. She worked at the Commercial Bank for 33 years retiring in 2003. She also assisted her husband in the family's business, Mid-States Adjustment Inc.

She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where she served on several committees. She also was active with the Red Hat Society. She was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross, donating over 50 units of blood. She assisted with the Monday lunch bunch for Parsons High School students and Angel Food Ministries.

SURVIVORS: In addition to her husband she is survived by One son – Alan Meier, and his wife, Barbara Dennis Three daughters – Carol Stevenson, and her husband, Todd Guernsey, WY Kim Halula, and her husband, Matt Topeka Kerri Stevens, and her husband, Zach Cherryvale Six Grandchildren – August "Auggie" Meier, and his wife, Michehle, Amber (Meier) Gutschke, Brant Williams, and his wife, Kristen, Malinda Hersey, and her husband, Chaz, Chandler and Logan Stevenson EightGreat-Grandchildren – Carleigh Meier, Shelby Meier, Aubrey Meier, Caleb Gutschke, Urcer Mac Heiskell, Sydney Heiskell, Pryce Williams, Raef Williams. Long Time Best Friend – Russell Barnes Several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Vicki Meier and Glenda Kay (Meier) Williams; four brothers, Howard, Elmo, Cecil, and Eugene Morris.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons. The casket will remain closed. A private committal service will be held in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Monday evening. Memorials are suggested to the Angel Food Ministries or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
