John Campbell is the second son of Archibald Campbell b. 1723 in Bedford Co.Va. He fought in the revolutionary war, as a militiaman being called into service on three to four different occasions. He fought in the battle of Wetzells Mills, Gilford Courthouse and marched to Yorktown Va. and fought under General George Washington until the surrender of General Cornwallis. His father Archibald was a member of the Continental Army and for his service received a land bounty signed by Thomas Jefferson. Around 1796 the family moved from Bedford/Campbell Co. Virgina to Knox County Tn. John married Sarah Vance in 1796-97 who's father was also a early settler of Knox County. Tn. They built a house and lived on her brothers farm for a few years after their marriage. Archibald died abt.1803 and his wife Elizabeth abt. 1814. and are reportedly buried in Straw Plains, Tn. After her death John and Sarah moved to Ohio purchasing at least 1/4 section of land and resumed farming.
