The funeral for Mamie H. Thomas, 95, of Athens will be at 3 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home with Marcus Long and Eddie Gooch officiating. Burial will be in the Athens City Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas died Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Valley View Health and Rehab Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Dolores Freeman of Athens; sons-in-law, Horace Freeman and Gene Stewart of Athens; grandchildren, Butch Freeman, Rocky Stewart, Steven Stewart, Roslyn Pressnell and Masi Freeman; great-grandchildren, Holly Wood, Morgan Pressnell, Maegen Freeman, Will Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Julia Stewart, Sam Stewart, and Evan Stewart; great-great-grandson, Holland Wood.
Mrs. Thomas was born December 5, 1912 in Athens to Joe F. and Mamie Harrison.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of Isom's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of Isom's Chapel Quilting Club. She was an avid reader and a fabulous cook. She was an inspiration to all whose path she crossed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rawls R. Thomas; daughters, Mariana Stewart and Judy Posey; grandchildren, Tracy Wayne Posey, William Todd Posey and Teri Layne Posey; sister, Christine Hanks; and brother, Joe Harrison.
