It is believed that William C Lawler came to the United States at the age of 16, around 1866. He married Mary Shaffer, born in Indiana, about 1872.

They had six children:

Mary Ellen
Margaret
Rose Ann
Edward M.
Florence Marie
Christopher George

There were also twin boys born June 24, 1889. One died on the 28th and the other on the 30th of June, 1889.
