Rose was the daughter of William Christopher Lawler of Ireland and Mary Jane Shaffer of Indiana. Rose married Thomas Purcell on July 1, 1895 in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri.

They had three children:
Irene
John Thomas
Josephine

Rose and George G Markopoulos were married sometime after 1936. George was born in Greece and took many trips back and forth to his birth country. Rose and George took a cruise on the Queen Mary to Cherbourge, France in December 1955. They spent New Year's Eve aboard ship and arrived in New York on January 3, 1956. George died on April 19, 1956 and is also buried here.
